VIDEO CODING FOR MACHINES

In 2021, video streamed for machine – not human – analysis accounted for nearly 50% of all video streamed over the internet and nearly 40% of all internet traffic writ large.  The requirements for a machine receiving streamed video differ greatly from those of a human, though – a human tends to care about picture quality; a machine focuses on identifying and indexing the various objects in the video.  Video Coding for Machines is an upcoming video compression standard optimized for machines, as the name suggests, and will unlock entire new categories of functionality, particularly in the area of IoT.

OP Solutions is a leading participant in VCM standard-setting.  In addition to our contributions to the standard, we intend to develop a hardware-based VCM decoder.
